Last year when I was on a fragrance binge I picked up a few bottles of Zara perfumes, Vanilla Wood (EDT) was one of them. This scent is a cocoa creamy musk that just seemed to fit with Decembers cold weather and the wool coats and boots I wore. I think its a comforting scent that bridges the gap between wanton lazy hazy days and the general hustle and bustle of busy working life. Whilst it does posses some sweetness, its not terribly sweet as the musk and vanilla cools it down into an almost dreamlike state.
After looking at reviews I was surprised to find that Vanilla Wood is a supposed dupe for Rebelle by Rihanna. Now if you read my fantasy review, you'd know that I'm not really into celebrities and their fragrances. However, it looks like their either churning out noteworthy stuff or I'm just as easy to please as the fragrance guru marketers thought I and the masses would be. Who knows which is true? (mutters: possibly the latter). Anyway whilst I don't own Rihanna's Rebelle - I decided to find a tester and find out myself if its truly a dupe and after a few spritz, I'd say its a definite dupe though Rebelle seems more fruity ...
Vanilla Wood is a scent that I do find interesting and I do adore the cocoa earthiness of it. On the other hand my sister said it smelt generic and cheap (she's a fragrance snob - only really likes Chanel dupes). Anyway .. Vanilla Wood is more inexpensive than Rebelle but a small bottle of Rebelle EDP can be found for relatively the same price as Vanilla Wood (around £12). So I guess you can go either way.
Fragrance notes: Mandarin, Peach, Cocoa, Praline and Vanilla.
Umm nothing more to say about the scent... if you like Chocolate and musky sweetness you'll like this. I think that the fragrance notes for this one are pretty spot on - its not my most favourite scent but it does intrigue me. It lasts fairly well on the skin and clothing - whilst I would consider this mostly a winter/fall fragrance - it wouldn't feel odd in summer as it has more sweetness and cocoa in it than musk and its not particulalrly overpowering. Plus, the bottle is a nicely frosted gradiented and sturdy, though slightly lopsided gold capped beauty. Overall - I like it.
Ingredients: Alcohol Denat, Aqua (Water), Parfum (Fragrance), Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnmate, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Limonene, Coumarin, Geraniol, Isoeugenol. Alcohol of Vegetal Origin 80% VOL.
Price: £12.99 for 75ml.
Expiration: 36 months.
